Position: Recreation Leader 1 & 2 Designation: Part-Time/Seasonal

Hours: Varies 10-30 hours a week

Description Recreation Leaders initiate, organize, and carry out a variety of recreational activities for elementary aged children. Leaders must be available to work June 5th - August 4th, with shifts varying between the hours of 6:30 am and 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday, including staff meetings and may work occasional evenings and weekends.

Essential and Marginal Functions Statement Essential functions and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Planning of daily activities

Assisting in coordinating special events, trips, and after school programs

Directing arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, music, and other activities

Rendering routine first aid for minor injuries.

Recreation Leaders maintain order and enforce rules and regulations regarding youth programming

Collect, and account for recreation equipment

Collect and maintain paperwork; act as playground supervisor

Actively engage with the participants in the program.

Essential Qualifications

Knowledge of recreation activities and community resources.

Ability to motivate and lead children.

Energy, enthusiasm, and creativity are highly desirable.

Able to use Telephone, radios, arts and crafts supplies, sports equipment, audio/visual equipment, computer systems, cleaning and sanitizing materials.

Ability to

Lead groups of children in safe, age-appropriate recreational activities

Maintain professional boundaries with participants and staff

Communicate effectively with children, parents, co-workers, and supervisors

Understand and follow direction given by supervisors

Desire to work collaboratively on a team and provide a safe and judgement‑free atmosphere where children can safety try new things and learn from their experiences.

Provide programming where children can gain cognitive, social, and physical skills through recreational experiences.

Facilitate and enforce current health and safety practices as specified by OVparks

Education / Experience

Minimum of 15 years of age, experience working and volunteering with kids preferred.

Possess valid First Aid and CPR certificates by start date.

Special Requirements First Aid and CPR certifications required by first day of employment.

Physical Requirements

Work conditions consist of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; frequent public contact; exposure to heat and inclement weather. Schedule may vary.

Frequently participates in strenuous physical activities, event and other related activities, in outdoor and indoor locations. Frequent monitoring of participants requiring the ability to detect and respond to emergency situations and provide CPR or First Aid as required.

Frequently required to lift or carry up to 30 pounds. Occasionally required to lift or carry up to 60 pounds.

Frequently required to walk, run, stand for long periods of time, reach, kneel, squat, sit, and bend while monitoring participants and participating in program activities.

Hearing and speech adequate to be able to communicate in person.

Vision adequate to monitor participants and observe events.

Manual dexterity to grasp and hold objects, use fine manipulation.
