The City of Reno is currently accepting applications for various part-time positions. The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking energetic, reliable, and community-focused individuals to support Park Activation Programs throughout parks, plazas, and public spaces. These positions provide frontline support for recreational programming, events, and community activations and serve as welcoming representatives of the City of Reno.
We have many positions available that cater to different interests and skills. Salaries and hours vary by position and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Available Positions
Community Activation Assistant ($15‑16.50/hour) – Available year‑round
Park Activation Lead Specialist ($16.75‑18.75/hour) – Available year‑round
Senior Park Activation Lead ($20‑26/hour) – Available year‑round
Seasonal Event Host ($20‑26/hour) – Available year‑round
Community Activation Assistant Responsibilities
Provide essential onsite support for park activation programs, recreation activities, and community events.
Assist with setup, breakdown, and basic operations for recreation programs, activations, and events.
Monitor program areas to help ensure participant safety and appropriate use of park facilities.
Park Activation Lead Specialist Responsibilities
Assist with daily operations, support staff coordination, and serve as a point of contact during assigned shifts.
Provide direction, support, and on‑the‑job training to Park Hosts.
Serve as an on‑site resource for participants, partners, and City staff.
Senior Park Activation Lead Responsibilities
Lead and oversee park activation programs, events, and special initiatives.
Train and supervise Park Hosts and Shift Leads during assigned programs.
Ensure compliance with City policies, permits, and safety requirements.
Additional Expectation:
Manage the transportation and logistics of mobile recreation equipment and assigned staff, including driving City vehicles as required.
Seasonal Event Host Responsibilities
Provide onsite support during festivals, concerts, community gatherings, neighborhood activations, and specialized programs; serve as a liaison between event organizers and City departments (e.g., Parks & Recreation, Public Works, Public Safety); and act as a resource to promoters, vendors, and attendees regarding public facilities, programs, and services.
Monitor event sites and program areas to ensure promoter compliance with City requirements and approved permits, including maintaining safety, cleanliness, organization, and appropriate use of facilities.
Qualifications Some positions may have a higher age requirement than 16 and require additional certifications for employment.
Community Activation Assistant Qualifications
Age: 16
Experience: Customer service, recreation, or volunteer experience preferred
Certifications: CPR/First Aid preferred or willingness to obtain
Park Activation Lead Specialist Qualifications
Age: 18
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience: One year of experience in recreation programs, events, or customer service
Licenses: Valid driver’s license required
Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
Senior Park Activation Lead Qualifications
Age: 18
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience: Two years of experience in recreation programs, events, hospitality, or related fields
Licenses: Valid driver’s license required
Preferred: Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages)
Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
Seasonal Event Host Qualifications
Age: 18
Education: An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent in experience
Experience: Two years of experience in event operations, hospitality, or customer service; expertise in a specialized area such as Recreation, Inclusion, Athletics, Parks, etc.
Preferred: Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages)
Licenses: Valid driver’s license
Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid preferred
