Vice President, Housing and Real Estate

The Vice President, Housing & Real Estate plays a vital role in advancing Thresholds’ mission to provide Home, Health, and Hope to people with serious mental health conditions. This leader provides vision, direction, and stewardship for all housing initiatives, ensuring that safe, stable, and affordable housing remains a foundation for recovery and long‑term well‑being.

The VP oversees Thresholds’ owned, operated, and supported housing and works collaboratively across the organization to expand access to housing that is high‑quality, community‑integrated, and responsive to the needs of the people we serve. Through thoughtful leadership and partnership, this role ensures that housing programs reflect our commitment to respect, equity, choice, and recovery for every member.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction for Thresholds’ housing and real estate portfolio

Identify and implement long‑term strategies for improving property performance and meeting organizational objectives including asset building, sustainability, and community and economic development

Create and vet housing opportunities through various funding sources and partnerships to increase access to affordable housing, maintaining Thresholds’ position as a leader in Illinois affordable housing

Promote and expand partnerships with developers, property owners, housing providers, and others to increase availability of affordable housing throughout the metropolitan Chicago area

Monitor the operational and financial performance of Thresholds' portfolio including acquisition, benchmarking, refinancing and rehabilitation

Provide leadership to the Director of Housing Administration, the Director of Real Estate and Asset Management, and the Director of Homeless Contracts Compliance and provide supervisory support for the Accounting Manager of Real Estate and oversee Thresholds’ 25 housing staff

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or Business Administration preferred, or relevant experience

Experience

Seven to ten years in a leadership position related to housing administration, including budget experience for a broad range of housing services such as housing development, housing finance, housing maintenance programs, and other federally‑funded programs

Extensive experience with principles and practices of affordable housing development, management, community programs and organizations

Working knowledge of affordable housing and community development financing programs, including taxation and compliance issues related to Low‑Income Housing Tax Credits and New Market Tax Credits preferred
