Twin Maples is seeking a results-oriented and detail-driven Excess Casualty Underwriter to join our expanding underwriting team. As an Excess Casualty Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and managing excess liability risks across various industry sectors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate robust analytical skills, market insight, and a commitment to underwriting profitability and client service. Key Responsibilities
Risk Analysis: Review, analyze, and underwrite new and renewal submissions for umbrella and excess casualty risks, including complex and large accounts, across diverse industry segments. Underwriting Authority: Determine coverage terms, conditions, attachment points, and pricing within established authority, while adhering to company guidelines and risk appetite. Portfolio Management: Build and manage a profitable book of excess casualty business, ensuring sustained growth and healthy loss ratios. Broker & Client Relationships: Develop, foster, and maintain strong relationships with brokers and insureds, providing responsive service, solution-oriented guidance, and market expertise. Collaboration: Work closely with loss control, claims, actuarial, and other underwriting teams to evaluate risks and implement best practices. Market Awareness: Monitor market trends, emerging risks (such as PFAS, sexual abuse and molestation, auto exposures, etc.), legal and regulatory developments affecting casualty lines. Business Development: Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, distribution channels, and product enhancements to expand Twin Maples' excess liability footprint. Documentation: Prepare indications, quotes, binders, policy documents, and endorsements with accuracy and timeliness, while maintaining thorough files and underwriting justifications. Mentorship: Assist in training or mentoring junior underwriters and support staff as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in insurance, risk management, business, or a related field. 2+ years of excess casualty/umbrella underwriting experience; experience in primary casualty or other commercial lines a plus. Sound knowledge of excess casualty/umbrella coverages, risk evaluation techniques, and pricing methodologies. Proven negotiation, decision-making, and analytical abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with electronic underwriting platforms, policy management systems, and Microsoft Office. Initiative, independence, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a high-performing team. Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or AU are desirable. Why Twin Maples?
