Under regular supervision, performs basic law enforcement duties in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the Bloomfield Police Department and in compliance with governing federal, state and local laws. None. Residents of Bloomfield & Military veterans will receive additional points on final passing scores. TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Town of Bloomfield is a Connecticut Police Chiefs Association (CPCA) participating department. To be eligible to take the CPCA written examination, qualified candidates will need to:

HIRING PROCESS

The hiring of a police officer is a multiple phase process. Generally, it includes the following:

Oral Interview Panel (minimum 70% score required)

Background Investigation - including criminal, driving, employment, military and educational record and other areas.
Interview with the Chief of Police
Polygraph Examination - will include investigation and background areas mentioned above as well as: medical history, financial history, gambling history, criminal activities including illegal use of drugs, illegal sexual activities and subversive, revolutionary or gang involvement activities.

You MUST have received a CPCA written score of at least 70% and must possess a current valid CHIP card at 40th percentile as a prerequisite to apply to the Bloomfield Police Department. Police Officer or Senior Police Officer:\nPatrols the city and responds to citizen’s requests and complaints regarding possible criminal activity such as disturbances, burglaries, prowlers, suspicious persons, etc.\nAllocates patrol time to identify and solve business and residential problems by applying proven problem-solving techniques.\nIssues warnings and citations to violators of city and state regulations and laws.\nArrests suspects, guards, and transports prisoners to other facilities.\nInvestigates suspicious and criminal activity.\nResponds to emergency calls, traffic accidents, and general requests for assistance.\nSecures crime scenes, interviews witnesses, victims, and suspects. Takes written and video statements and confessions.\nCollects and preserves evidence.\nGuards and transports mental patients to out-of-town facilities.\nWrites offense reports, arrest reports, incident reports, supplemental reports, and other police-related documents, forms, and memorandums.\nInforms the community of crime prevention, public safety, and public awareness programs.\nAdvises citizens concerning laws and ordinances.\nAppears in court and testifies.\nMay be assigned to specialized programs such as Special Crimes, Investigations, Crime Prevention Unit, etc.\nRegular attendance at work and arrives on time.\nPerforms duties according to the City and departmental safety rules and policies.\nPerforms all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.\nAbility to get along with other employees and the public.\nIn addition to the above, the Senior Police Officer is expected:\nTo assist in the training of cadet officers and provides guidance to officers of lesser rank.\nEmployee is exposed to possibly dangerous criminals on an ongoing basis. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle at high speeds during emergencies. Ability to lift 35-40 pounds frequently, up to 70 pounds occasionally, and to pull or drag up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, co-peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.\nKnowledge, Abilities and Skills:\nAbility to read and interpret policies, ordinances, state laws, reports, and updates regarding criminal activity. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:\nTwenty-one (21) years or over (18 years with 60 academic semester hours, college credit, or two years military service).
