What We're Looking For
It’s an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners for this key position in the Houston Office. The Group Director-GEC & Program Management will:
Bring a culture of leadership and development; responsible for technical coaching and mentoring, and efficient, productive utilization of staff to provide high‑quality service.
Drive profitable growth of the GEC & Program Management services.
Collaborate with leadership across the office and division to apply the firm’s strategic sales and planning approaches.
Lead and support project pursuits and proposals.
Drive 4for4 project delivery and manage project scope, budget, and quality control for large and/or complex projects or programs.
Coordinate project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments for profitable performance.
Oversee departmental financial metrics to ensure adherence to the group’s goals and align with office expectations.
Ensure clients receive the proper resources at the appropriate time.
Serve as a bridge between the design office and co‑located staff at HNTB’s client‑focused project offices, bringing a connected culture to staff and ensuring seamless career and development opportunities regardless of an employee’s reporting location.
What You'll Do
Direct and supervise the development and management of operating budgets for the departments within the Group, coordinating with the office budget.
Oversee the group’s activities, establish priorities, and assign staff to projects; collaborate with other groups, offices, and divisions on work‑sharing needs and opportunities.
Drive implementation of the firm’s strategic plan and HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) process on project pursuits and markets with the Group and office, including development of strategic planning strategies.
Drive implementation of the firm’s contracting (SCA) process through project delivery and contracting activities, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the group.
Drive implementation of the firm’s project delivery (SDA) process, including Work Planning, Monthly Project Reviews, and other project performance methods to ensure quality work, on time, on schedule, and to the client’s satisfaction.
Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win‑to‑work activities.
Maintain client contacts to ensure client satisfaction and lead and assist in sales and marketing efforts for department growth.
Assist in the development and execution of the office strategic plan; may participate in the Office Leadership Team (OLT).
Recruit, hire, develop, and retain department staff within the group, supporting Department Managers with the development of plans for staff reporting, performance, and compensation reviews, and succession planning.
Manage assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management) and perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.
Lead a group including the direct and indirect supervision of at least 25 but typically 35–40 or more employees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 12 years of practical experience, including 4 years of supervisory experience.
What We Prefer
15 years practical experience.
6 years supervisory experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
