The IT Director of Applications is responsible for leading the strategic planning, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise clinical and operational applications, with a particular focus on non‑Epic systems. This role will oversee the rebuilding and optimization of the applications function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and high standards of patient care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, implementation, optimization, and support of enterprise clinical and operational applications, with emphasis on non‑Epic systems
Oversee and transform the applications function, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing a high‑performing, scalable team
Manage the full application lifecycle, including development, validation, upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning
Partner cross‑functionally with clinical, laboratory, and IT stakeholders to enhance patient care delivery and operational performance
Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and third‑party application vendors, managing relationships and performance
Establish and enforce policies, procedures, and best practices related to application management, change management, and project delivery
Drive application strategy, including interoperability and system integration initiatives across the enterprise
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, security standards, and organizational policies
Provide leadership in data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives to support informed decision‑making
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing team culture, promoting effective communication across all stakeholder groups
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in application management leadership within a healthcare environment
Proven track record of leading application teams and delivering enterprise‑level solutions
Strong understanding of clinical and operational healthcare systems, particularly non‑Epic platforms
Demonstrated success managing cross‑functional stakeholders, including clinical, laboratory, and IT teams
Experience overseeing the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and application support models
Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, mentor, and build cohesive, high‑performing teams
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non‑technical audiences
Proven project management expertise with the ability to drive complex initiatives through to successful completion
