Horticultural experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person
Good retail sales skills and the ability to assist our varied client base in a positive, professional, and knowledgeable manner
Must be self‑motivated and dependable, have a positive attitude, and enjoy learning and working outdoors
Must be able to lift plant material weighing up to 25 pounds
This position is required to work outdoors in all weather conditions from early spring through the winter holiday season

Description PERENNIAL DEPARTMENT – GARDEN CENTER SALES ASSOCIATE (Part or Full Time)
POSITION DUTIES:
Work with the perennial manager and other knowledgeable staff to unload, price, display, and sell a wide array of herbaceous plant material
Complete horticultural duties such as potting up, watering, fertilizing, and pruning of perennials
Provide sales advice to retail customers, helping them select culturally appropriate plants for their landscapes and offering insight on proper soil amendments including fertilizer, mulch, compost and various peat products that will ensure the plant’s success
Work with the team to maintain the perennial area, including weeding paths and organizing and alphabetizing plant material
Assist with other farm and seasonal duties as needed, including but not limited to:
Directing customers to our pick‑your‑own orchards in the summer and early fall;
Cutting, assembling, and selling our farm‑grown winterberry bundles, buckets, and wholesale during the holiday season
Salary & Benefits Starting Hourly Wage:
Beginning at $20/hr and commensurate with experience
Company Windy Hill Farm is a diverse horticultural operation serving Berkshire, Litchfield and Columbia counties and consisting of a 7 acre apple orchard, a 1 acre blueberry field, 8 acres of field‑grown specialty ornamental nursery stock, a retail garden center, and a full service landscape department.
Our philosophy is to offer only the finest in shade, specimen and flowering trees; ornamental shrubs; interesting conifers and broadleaf evergreens; tree fruits, small fruits, espaliered apples, pears and Asian pears; hardy shrub roses; vines, choice perennial and ornamental grasses.
