
Senior SBA & Transactional Portfolio Manager

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior SBA & Transactional Portfolio Manager is responsible for the underwriting, credit risk management, and ongoing oversight of SBA and transactional loan portfolios. This role exercises independent judgment on matters of credit risk, loan structure, and regulatory compliance; provides subject matter expertise to Relationship Manager and Loan Processing teams; and supports new loan originations, portfolio monitoring, and special projects as required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Consults with Regional Managers and Relationship Managers on new SBA loan requests under consideration.
Pre-screens new credit requests for eligibility and satisfactory loan structure.
Underwrites new SBA 7(a) and 504 loan requests and prepares written credit analyses, commentary, and recommendations in accordance with SBA and Bank policies.
Perform underwriting duties including appropriate commentary, financial analysis, and recommendations while ensuring compliance with SBA and Bank regulations, policies and internal procedures.
Reviews loan conditions for satisfaction prior to closing.
Reviews third-party reports including appraisal reports, environmental reports, credit reports, title reports, and other due diligence materials for compliance with loan requirements.
Ensures accurate and compliant completion of commitment letters and formal SBA loan applications.
Reviews existing portfolio for payment performance and compliance with reporting requirements.
Monitors assigned portfolio for delinquent loan payments and reporting requirements.
Conducts annual and periodic credit reviews and assigns or recommends borrower risk ratings based on financial performance and credit quality.
Instructs the Credit Analyst and/or contacts borrowers directly to coordinate loan payments and collection of required financial reporting.
Consults with loan processing team to ensure smooth and timely loan closings.
Instructs Credit Analysts on spreading needs and underwriting requirements for SBA and assigned transactional loans.
Serves as a subject matter expert for SBA lending, providing guidance and technical support to internal stakeholders.
Participates in Bank and SBA audit preparation.
Maintains awareness of and compliance with applicable banking regulations, including SBA SOPs, BSA/AML requirements, OFAC, and internal Bank compliance policies.
Special projects as required.
Requirements
Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience with Small Business Administration SBA 7a and 504 Lending.
Knowledge and understanding of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Policies.
Customer service focus with the ability to listen to customer needs and recommend solutions.
Knowledge and understanding of loan structuring across a broad spectrum of product and loan types.
Ability to review personal or business financial statements and tax returns (commercial and individual).
Ability to work in a fast‑paced deadline‑driven environment.
Self‑starter with strong organization & time management skills.
Stay abreast of SBA 7a and 504 loan guidelines, Bank loan policy, and SBA regulations.
Education / Licenses / Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum 5 years of experience underwriting SBA 7a and 504.
Minimum of 5 years of experience serving SBA 7a loans sold in the secondary market.
Knowledge of software utilized in the underwriting of SBA 7a and 504 loans.
Knowledge of personal computer, Windows and Microsoft software applications is required.
Must be able to prepare documents and compose business letters and memorandums.
Work Environment
Standard office environment with a moderate noise level.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Remain in a stationary position for sustained periods of time.
Occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets and/or other office machinery.
Occasionally required to raise objects up to 25 pounds from a lower to a higher position, move objects horizontally from position to position with, and/or bend body downward and forward, and/or extend hands and/or arms in any direction to access files and/or other office machinery.
Consistent use of a computer and/or other office machinery is required, such as a keyboard, calculator, copy machine, scanning machine, and/or computer printer.
