Director of Finance
CB Partners is partnering with an engineering organization seeking a Director of Finance to serve as a strategic business partner to senior leadership. This role is highly strategy‑focused and hands‑on, with ownership of a defined division/portfolio and direct influence on business decisions. This is an ideal opportunity for a senior finance professional who enjoys operating at a high strategic level while remaining deeply involved in the work. You’ll partner closely with engineering, operations, and executive leadership to drive financial strategy, improve performance, and support long‑term growth.
What You’ll Do
Act as the primary finance partner for a business unit or portfolio, supporting strategic and operational decision‑making
Lead financial planning, forecasting, and long‑range modeling for assigned divisions
Analyze financial performance, project margins, utilization, and cost drivers; translate insights into actionable recommendations
Partner closely with engineering, operations, and leadership teams to support growth initiatives, investments, and pricing decisions
Own budgeting and forecasting processes for assigned areas, including variance analysis and performance tracking
Develop and maintain financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools to support decision‑making
Support project‑based financial analysis common to engineering and professional services environments
Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, efficiency, and scalability
Drive process improvements and enhance financial visibility as the business evolves
What We’re Looking For
Strong strategic mindset with the ability to influence without authority
Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor while partnering closely with executives
Deep understanding of financial statements, forecasting, and business modeling
Experience supporting project‑based, engineering, or professional services organizations
Ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to non‑finance stakeholders
Highly analytical, detail‑oriented, and hands‑on
Proactive problem‑solver who thrives in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment
Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial systems and reporting tools
Experience & Education
Required:
8–12+ years of progressive finance experience (FP&A, finance leadership, or strategic finance)
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
Preferred:
Experience in engineering, construction, or professional services environments
Preferred:
MBA, CPA, or CFA
