
Counter Sales Representative- Heavy Equipment Rentals

Position Overview
Vaco has partnered with a heavy equipment rental organization seeking a
Counter Sales Representative
to support its fast-paced Rental Services operation in Columbus, IN. This is an
inside, customer-facing role
focused on supporting walk-in and call-in customers at the rental counter.
The priority for this role is delivering excellent customer service and using equipment knowledge to help customers rent the right tools efficiently. You'll work with customers who sometimes know exactly what they need and others who rely on your guidance to make the right decision.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Approximately 5 hours of built-in overtime per week
On-Call Rotation:
Weekend on-call rotation approximately every 5 weeks
What You’ll Do
Serve as the first point of contact for walk-in customers, inbound phone calls, texts, and online rental inquiries
Support customers through the full rental process—from reservation through closeout and billing
Listen to customer needs and recommend appropriate equipment, attachments, and accessories
Coordinate rental logistics including availability, pricing, delivery schedules, and contract completion
Work with a diverse rental fleet, including:
Mini excavators, dozers, loaders, telehandlers
Aerial equipment (boom lifts, scissor lifts)
Forklifts, generators, attachments, bucket sizes, and more
Accurately process rental transactions, including reservations, contracts, invoicing, and payment collection for cash accounts
Follow up on unsigned rental agreements to ensure timely completion
Open new customer accounts and support branch-level growth initiatives
Collaborate closely with:
Other counter sales representatives
Outside sales team members
Dispatch to ensure deliveries are completed on time
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional showroom and personal appearance
Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly branch reporting as assigned
Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment where responsiveness and communication are critical
Qualifications: Required / Strongly Preferred:
Hands-on experience working with equipment in environments such as:
Construction
Farming or agriculture
Quarry, industrial, or similar settings
Comfortable discussing equipment use, specs, and applications
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to multitask and stay organized under time-sensitive conditions
Team-oriented mindset with a strong focus on cultural fit
Previous counter sales or inside sales experience is preferred
Ability to use MS Office and other computer systems
