The Managing Principal Architect leads the enterprise Architecture practice, driving the evolution of architectural capabilities to align with organizational strategy. This role is responsible for establishing governance, frameworks, and standards while building and leading a high-performing team of architects. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring a proven ability to implement architecture practices, optimize application portfolios, and deliver measurable business value through strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities
Lead daily operations of the Architecture practice, including roadmap execution, resource planning, and capability development Develop and implement architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., COBIT 2019, TOGAF, Gartner EA Framework) Drive business value through application portfolio rationalization, cost optimization, and reduction of technical debt Build credibility across business units through consistent delivery of impactful results Facilitate architecture reviews, standards approvals, and exception management Establish governance frameworks for technology decisions, evaluations, and compliance Lead enterprise‑wide technology evaluations and strategic investment decisions Define and enforce architecture standards aligned with business objectives Global Architecture Collaboration
Represent North American architecture needs in global forums Collaborate with international teams to align standards and practices Evaluate global standards for regional applicability while maintaining strong partnerships Lead and mentor senior architects, fostering professional growth and capability building Scale the architecture team in line with business needs Promote knowledge sharing, training, and hands‑on development Strategic Architecture & Transformation
Define target‑state architecture aligned with business strategy and regulatory requirements Lead key transformation initiatives such as cloud migration and application modernization Partner with leadership to evolve architecture strategy and practices Develop business cases demonstrating ROI and measurable business impact Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned Working Conditions
Primarily office‑based (approximately 95%), using standard business and communication tools Occasional travel (approximately 5%) for vendor visits, internal meetings, and conferences Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field 7–10 years of experience in technical architecture, application architecture, and systems integration 4+ years of experience in enterprise architecture and application portfolio management Experience in regulated industries such as energy, utilities, or financial services preferred Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF) preferred Skills & Expertise
Strong expertise in application portfolio assessment and rationalization Experience with TCO analysis, cost modeling, and migration strategy planning Deep integration experience with REST APIs, SOAP, and middleware technologies Proven success in multiple areas such as: Application rationalization with measurable cost savings Cloud migration initiatives, preferably AWS‑based Ecosystem mapping and technical documentation Hands‑on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda) Ability to produce clear technical documentation, diagrams, and data flows Strong stakeholder management and communication skills Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., FERC, NERC CIP, GDPR, CCPA) Broad technical understanding of legacy and cloud‑native systems EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT
