SUMMARY The Optical Sales Associate supports MedLink Georgia's Vision Services department by assisting patients with frame selection, eyewear purchases, and customer service needs. As part of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), this role promotes access to affordable, high-quality vision care for underserved communities while delivering compassionate, culturally competent service. As a recognized patient-centered medical home (PCMH), every employee is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of quality, comprehensive patient-centered care as a member of the patient's care team. By performing the job expectations described below, you will be an active member of the care team, thereby ensuring patients have access to team-based, coordinated, comprehensive, quality care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING)
Greet patients and provide exceptional customer service
Assist patients with selecting frames based on style, comfort, and budget
Explain lens options, add-ons, and pricing clearly and professionally
Verify vision insurance benefits (Medicaid, Medicare, commercial plans)
Process optical sales transactions and collect payments
Support sliding fee scale patients in accordance with FQHC guidelines
Enter patient orders accurately into the EHR and optical ordering system
Track and follow up on eyewear orders to ensure timely delivery
Notify patients when eyewear is ready for pickup
Maintain frame inventory and ensure displays are clean and organized
Assist with minor adjustments and basic frame repairs (training provided)
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
Support team-based care and quality improvement initiatives
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required
Retail or customer service experience required (optical experience preferred)
Knowledge of Medicaid and managed care vision plans preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Detail-oriented with basic math skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
