The Director of Research & Development will lead all innovation, formulation, and product development activities for a fast-paced Nutraceutical CDMO. This role is responsible for driving new product pipelines, optimizing existing formulations, and ensuring all R&D programs align with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and commercial goals. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in nutraceutical formulation and a strong background managing technical teams in a manufacturing-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities R&D Leadership & Strategy

Develop and execute the company’s R&D strategy to support customer projects, innovation goals, and long‑term growth.

Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of formulation scientists, product developers, and technicians.

Oversee the design, development, and optimization of dietary supplement products across formats such as powders, capsules, tablets, gummies, soft gels, and liquids.

Formulation & Product Development

Direct the creation of stable, scalable, and cost-effective formulations based on customer briefs and market trends.

Ensure robust bench‑to‑pilot‑to‑commercial scale‑up, working closely with Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.

Evaluate new raw materials, active ingredients, and delivery technologies for feasibility and differentiation.

Project Management & Client Interface

Serve as the technical lead for customer projects, providing scientific guidance and professional communication.

Oversee project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.

Collaborate with Sales and Business Development on technical proposals and feasibility assessments.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

Ensure all R&D activities comply with cGMP, FDA/FTC regulations, and international regulatory standards as applicable.

Oversee development of technical documentation including formulation records, stability data, manufacturing instructions, and product specifications.

Support regulatory submissions or documentation required for global markets.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field.

10+ years of experience in nutraceutical, food, or pharmaceutical product development.

Proven leadership experience managing technical teams.

Strong knowledge of dietary supplement regulations (cGMP, DSHEA, labeling requirements).

Demonstrated success taking products from concept through commercial launch.
