Auxiliary Programs Director / Early Childhood & Lower School Coordinator

to support both the School’s auxiliary programs and the daily operations of the Early Childhood and Lower School divisions. This is a dynamic, dual-role position that combines program leadership with administrative coordination in a collaborative school environment.

This is a full-time, year-round salaried position. All Washington Waldorf School employees are responsible for fostering an educational environment aligned with Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and the AWSNA Principles of Waldorf Education; collaborating with colleagues to support students; contributing to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community; and advancing the School’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

This position is structured as a dual role, with responsibilities divided between Auxiliary Programs leadership and Early Childhood & Lower School coordination. The role works closely with School administration, faculty across all divisions.

Primary Responsibilities Auxiliary Programs Director (Aftercare, Summer Camp & Program Development)

Oversee the Aftercare Program and Summer Camp, ensuring warm, safe, and developmentally appropriate environments aligned with Waldorf principles

Lead the development and expansion of auxiliary programming, including designing and implementing new offerings such as clubs, enrichment classes, and other after school opportunities for students

Collaborate with school leadership to assess program needs, explore new initiatives, and build sustainable, mission-aligned auxiliary offerings over time

Ensure compliance with all applicable licensing, health, and regulatory requirements in coordination with school administration

Recruit, hire, train, and manage Aftercare staff, Summer Camp instructors, and additional auxiliary program leaders as programs expand

Serve as the primary point of contact for families enrolled in auxiliary programs

Collaborate with the administrative team to support program planning, enrollment, promotion, and operations

Maintain accurate records related to attendance, registration, scheduling, and budgeting, including summer program payroll coordination

Coordinate childcare staffing for in-service days, professional development, parent‑teacher conferences, and other school needs

Early Childhood & Lower School Coordination

Serve as the primary administrative point of contact for Early Childhood and Lower School families, faculty, and staff

Manage and distribute regular communications to families and the broader school community

Coordinate daily substitute coverage for Early Childhood and Lower School faculty and assistant absences

Participate in school‑wide calendar planning and coordinate adjustments due to weather, events, or operational needs

Coordinate logistics for festivals, field trips, assemblies, parent evenings, and other events in collaboration with Department Chairs

Manage the collection and maintenance of student records, including attendance, health (immunization and medication), permissions, and emergency contact information, in coordination with the Front Office Manager and School Nurse

Communicate with families regarding student health and wellness as needed, in partnership with appropriate staff

Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school policies and applicable regulations

Support updates to and distribution of family and faculty handbooks and other school materials

Provide administrative support for hiring and onboarding of Early Childhood and Lower School faculty and assistants

Attend Early Childhood and Lower School faculty meetings and support departmental communication, initiatives, and implementation of decisions

Assist with daily school rhythms, including arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal, and support for field trips and special events

Serve as Early Childhood and Lower School registrar

Partner with the Early Childhood OCC Director to support compliance with Maryland Office of Child Care (OCC) regulations, including maintaining required documentation and assisting with annual inspections and audits

Schoolwide Administrative & Operational Support

Manage and coordinate faculty duty schedules across Early Childhood, Lower School, and Upper School divisions, ensuring appropriate coverage, equity, and alignment with school needs

Design, build, and maintain the organizational structure of a shared digital resource and records hub (e.g., Google Drive or similar platform), in coordination with the Operations Director

Support special projects and additional administrative initiatives as requested

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Familiarity with Waldorf education or a demonstrated interest in learning more

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic school environment

Proficiency with administrative systems and ability to learn school‑specific platforms

Collaborative mindset with proactive problem‑solving skills

Preferred Experience

Experience in a school, camp, or educational setting

Experience managing programs or supervising staff

CPR/First Aid certification and/or willingness to obtain certification

Maryland OCC certification/clearances to support licensed program operations and/or willingness to obtain certification

Maryland Medication Technician certification or willingness to obtain
