
Recreation Assistant - Navy Marine Golf Course

Summary
This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); Commander Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH). The primary function of the position is to ensure proper usage of the facility, assist in the operation of the recreation activity and provide proper collection and disposition of revenues generated at the assigned facility.
Duties Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides customer service to patrons using the facility, including greeting customers; checking ID cards to ensure only authorized users enter; issuing and receiving gear/equipment; registering patrons for facility use, events, and/or classes.
Answers telephone, providing information about facility hours, upcoming events, and programs.
Completes Daily Activity Reports, handles cash where applicable, verifies receipts, and deposits the cashier bag in the drop safe.
Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing activities and maintaining related supplies to attract and motivate participants.
Oversees sale of retail items associated with activities.
Evaluates the effectiveness of MWR fitness activities from participants’ responses, resources, and program objectives.
Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors at the program/event; reports issues to management.
Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities to be offered, both within required basic program categories and additional possibilities based on resources and participant interests.
Instructional Support:
Monitors participants in indoor and outdoor activities, including intramural sporting events.
Conducts instructional classes in the assigned recreational area.
Performs basic fitness orientation, identifies and corrects unsafe fitness techniques.
Demonstrates procedures common to the activities and instructs in the use of related equipment.
Establishes/reviews schedules of events, conducts tours, sets up facilities prior to scheduled start times.
Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.
Facility/Equipment Maintenance:
Ensures facility and sporting fields are open and closed at posted times.
Monitors security of premises.
Circulates among patrons to assist with equipment use and maintain order.
Maintains athletic playing surfaces, ensures they are safe and ready for play.
Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment/facilities; maintains inventory; performs general janitorial services to keep spaces clean and orderly.
Makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when appropriate.
Reports maintenance problems, material deficiencies, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations involving the work area.
Basic arithmetic skills for computing charges, dispensing change, and preparing reports.

Knowledge of basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.
Knowledge of safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic maintenance/repair.
Skill in use of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.
Ability to carry out day‑to‑day recreation operations competently and independently.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or training.
Communicational effectiveness, both orally and in writing.
Work Structure Works under direct supervision of the Fitness and/or Sports, Aquatics Program Managers or Fitness Facility and Maintenance Manager. Incumbent uses initiative in completing daily/routine assignments and receives general guidance and supervision. Supervisor provides advice and guidance for special problems or unusual situations.
Guidelines, Complexity, Scope, and Contacts Guidelines consist of Navy Fitness, Sports & Aquatics Support program standards, departmental policies, regulations, and SOPs. Complexity involves providing fitness information, ensuring operational efficiency, development and implementation of fitness classes, and interacting with a wide variety of patrons. Scope and effect relate to routine operations that impact patrons and staff. Personal contacts include personnel at all levels, vendors, contractors, local organizations, surgeons, etc. Purpose of contacts is to plan, implement, and administer recreation, sports, and aquatics programs; motivate participants; arrange staff assistance; resolve problems; enforce policies; provide customer service; increase participation; promote quality of life.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Extends hours of sitting and standing. May require exercise demonstrations. Must perform moderate physical labor, lift objects up to 45 lbs unassisted and heavier with assistance. Requires usual safety precautions typical of recreation specialty.
Other Requirements and Certifications Must have or obtain within 30 days of hire:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification.
Must have or obtain within 90 days of hire:
Automated External Defibrillator Certification.
Blood‑borne Pathogen Certification.
Navy Basic Fitness Certification.
Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required.
Must obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI) upon hiring and renew every 5 years; or a Child Care National Agency Check with Inquiries if regular contact with children under 18.
Background and Education Employment is subject to successful National Agency Background Check. This position does not have a positive education requirement.
Additional Information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
