Title:
Pet Stylist
Responsibilities
Perform professional grooming services (bath, dry, brush, haircut, styling, nail trim, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) under moderate supervision following pet parent instructions and breed standards.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Prioritize safety and well‑being of pets, monitoring for discomfort or illness and reporting concerns to owners and management.
Assess individual pet needs based on coat type, skin condition, temperament.
Provide excellent customer service to pet parents, addressing queries, offering recommendations, resolving concerns.
Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and home‑care practices.
Maintain a clean and safe grooming area by sanitizing tools, performing daily and weekly cleaning, and adhering to hygiene policies.
Follow Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, consistency.
Train, support, and supervise entry‑level trainees in absence of Grooming Salon Leader.
Education and Experience
Successful completion of Pet Stylist Apprentice program or prior professional grooming experience or relevant training program.
High‑school diploma or GED (preferred but not required).
Independent judgment and problem‑solving skills for routine to moderately complex grooming scenarios.
Results‑driven, committed to productivity and ownership of role.
Strong attention to detail and grooming standards.
Passion for animals and commitment to a career in pet grooming.
Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues, behaviors, breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Capacity to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays per grooming schedule.
Work Environment The position is conducted indoors in a grooming salon, involving bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs, standing for long periods, use of a ladder or support tools, exposure to noise and wet conditions.
Salary Range $15.00 – $23.00 per hour (may vary by location, level, and wage laws).
