Internship Summary We are seeking a driven, enthusiastic, detail-oriented Water Resources Program Intern. This internship includes opportunities to learn about historical, current and future water policy, water resource management, and City water conservation initiatives. In this role, you will support departmental efforts to effectively manage historical and active digital records related to operational and long-term water resources management efforts. You will also have opportunities to engage the public at key outreach events and gain hands‑on, real‑world experience related to water conservation programming.
Responsibilities Help organize electronic policies and division records to prepare for migrating into a SharePoint environment, assist in reviewing water obligations related to new requests for City water service, and use writing and research skills to help draft informational content for Prescott's long‑term water management plan. Projects will also include assisting with water conservation rebate application reviews, assisting customers with EyeOnWater® leak detection signups, and staffing public outreach events.
Scope
Gathering and organizing data and records from various sources
Collaborating with team members to verify data and check for errors, inconsistencies, or duplicates
Participating in the file folder placement and renaming process
Engaging in water resources demand management planning conversations
Assisting with water obligation cataloging for long‑term planning data management
Learning about and assisting with water conservation rebate processing and record keeping
Assisting customers with EyeOnWater® smart‑meter leak detection questions
Staffing and providing customer support at public events such as the Prescott Farmers Market, City workshops, and with HOAs
Assisting with additional water conservation outreach projects as needed
Supporting daily administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications Education and/or Experience:
Current enrollment or recent graduation from an undergraduate or graduate program in natural sciences, sustainability, conservation, environmental education or business field
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Skill in using computers
Skill in using Excel and writing basic reports in Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent analytical skills
A passion for water resource related work
Outstanding multitasking abilities
Skill in accurately documenting daily work tasks
Ability to recognize occupational hazards of work
Ability to follow safety principles, regulations, and safe work practices
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with City employees
Ability to exercise sound judgment
Ability to collect and organize facts and data
Ability to record field data manually and by using computer programs
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work on tasks without constant supervision
