First Baptist Church Killeen is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor who is called by God to shepherd, lead, and equip our congregation for gospel-centered ministry. Our church is committed to the authority of Scripture, the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and reaching our community and the world with the love of Christ.
Located in the growing Central Texas community of Killeen—near Fort Hood—our church has a diverse congregation that includes military families, long-time residents, and young families.
Position Summary The Senior Pastor will serve as the primary spiritual leader, teacher, and shepherd of the congregation. He will provide biblical preaching, pastoral care, and visionary leadership while working alongside church staff and ministry leaders to fulfill the church’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities Preaching & Teaching
Prepare and deliver biblically faithful sermons that clearly communicate God’s Word
Lead the congregation in sound doctrine and spiritual growth
Oversee the teaching ministry of the church
Leadership & Vision
Provide strategic leadership and vision for the church’s mission and ministries
Lead the church staff and work collaboratively with deacons and ministry leaders
Equip members for discipleship, evangelism, and service
Pastoral Care
Shepherd and care for the spiritual needs of the congregation
Provide counseling, visitation, and support for members in times of need
Officiate weddings, funerals, and other pastoral duties
Community Engagement
Lead the church in outreach and evangelism within the local community
Seek to reach the lost through intentional engagement
Foster partnerships with local ministries and organizations
Qualifications
A professed believer in Jesus Christ and of Christian character
Master’s degree from an accredited and approved theological seminary
Be ordained or a candidate for ordination
Experience in Christian Education/Discipleship, Outreach, Administration, and Preaching/Pastoral Care
At least five years of relevant work experience
Background check free of criminal, financial, and substance abuse issues
Affirm Baptist beliefs and practices as found in The Baptist Faith and Message
Able to work in harmony with all staff members
Personal Characteristics
Deep commitment to the authority of Scripture
Christlike character and spiritual maturity
A servant leader who builds unity within the church body
Passion for reaching people with the gospel
