Job Description Position Overview

The Change Readiness Director role is part of the Strategy, Portfolio & Operations organization (SP&O). This role actively leads the achievement of SP&O’s Learning, Development, and Business Readiness strategic pillar: adaptable and empowered R&D teams and team systems, building individual capabilities to enable performance and development, and successful implementation and adoption of R&D transformations.

The Director will drive organizational change and lead the strategy, development, and implementation of improvement programs and transformations that enhance performance and efficiency at R&D-wide level. They advise senior management on opportunities for successful change, mentor colleagues, and collaborate across matrix teams. The Director builds a purpose-driven environment by aligning Johnson & Johnson’s Credo, Leadership Imperatives, and R&D’s Courage & Care culture with owned strategies and solutions. They prepare the organization for continuous evolution, implementation, and realization of R&D strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement change strategies and plans that align with organizational and program objectives, addressing stakeholder impacts and ensuring smooth transitions.

Design and execute communication frameworks to engage employees at all levels, delivering clear, consistent messages through appropriate channels.

Identify and engage key stakeholders to secure buy‑in and support across the R&D organization.

Establish readiness and measurement strategies, developing metrics and dashboards to assess the effectiveness of change programs and overall R&D performance.

Assess change impact and needs, translating insights into comprehensive engagement strategies to prepare employees effectively.

Model R&D culture of Courage & Care, embedding cultural and behavior shifts and new ways of working into the large matrix organization.

Required Skills

Deep knowledge of change management frameworks and methodologies.

Proven experience in performance consulting to identify gaps and recommend solutions.

Strong project management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering on time.

Analytical ability to use data to inform training strategies and improve program effectiveness.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; skilled at presenting complex information clearly.

Influential interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.

Experience & Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field required; Master’s preferred.

10+ years of experience in change management, organizational development, or communications, focusing on operating model, culture, and technology transformations.

Experience leading teams and external partners.

Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross‑functional teams.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence at all organizational levels.

Experience in a pharmaceutical R&D organization preferred.

Certification in Change Management (e.g., Prosci, ACMP) is a plus.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $150,000.00 – $258,750.00.

Vacation – 120 hours per calendar year S

ick time – 40 hours per calendar year (48 hours for Colorado residents, 56 hours for Washington residents) Holiday pay, including floating holidays – 13 days per calendar year Work, Personal and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member; 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52‑week rolling period Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year Military Spouse Time‑Off – 80 hours per calendar year
