Substation Designer
Join a team where passion meets purpose. As a Substation Designer, you will be part of a dynamic engineering department, developing electrical construction drawings for substations. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior designers and ensuring the highest standards in project delivery.
Responsibilities
Create electrical construction drawings for substations using the latest standards.
Manage part naming, numbering conventions, and file management protocols.
Utilize Vault and ProjectWise for project documentation to track all design modifications and new designs.
Handle complex projects with minimal supervision.
Coordinate with cross‑departmental teams involved in design projects.
Mentor and guide less experienced designers.
Check and validate both your own project drawings and those of peers and subordinates.
Work under the supervision of Professional Engineers.
Focus on protection and control, creating and modifying single line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, AC & DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and other equipment schematics using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation.
Design protection schemes for breaker controls, line relaying, bus relaying, and communication both internal and external to the station.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in electrical design, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Expertise in using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
Demonstrable proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
Ability to design protection and control schemes for substations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Over four years of experience in designing schematics, wiring diagrams, and single line diagrams.
Over four years of electrical design experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer‑aided design (CAD) or equivalent experience and/or education in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology.
Work Environment The position is based within the Substation Department, where you will work with the latest design tools and technologies including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation. You will collaborate with a diverse team across different departments, fostering a supportive and innovative work environment.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of New Albany, OH.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
