Position Summary The Technical Designer reports to the Divisional Director of Design, is located in Lenexa, KS, works full‑time in a hybrid setting, and plays a vital role in commercial kitchen design. The position creates draft layouts, production drawings, and presentation materials, and remains engaged with clients throughout schematic design, design development, and prototype package development. The designer collaborates with architectural and engineering partners across regions to deliver successful design projects.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities BIM Modeling

Execute BIM modeling tasks for commercial kitchen design projects, focusing on accuracy and adherence to project specifications.

Develop 2D and 3D models using BIM software tools, such as Revit, under senior guidance.

Design Documentation

Contribute to design drawings, specifications, and technical documents necessary for project execution.

Ensure design documentation aligns with project requirements and standards.

Quality Control Checks

Participate in final quality control checks on BIM models to identify and address discrepancies.

Project Coordination

Assist in coordinating design elements with cross‑functional teams, including architectural and engineering partners.

Collaborate to ensure seamless integration of design components within the project.

Data Management

Organize and maintain project files and folders for efficient data management.

Collaboration and Learning

Collaborate with senior team members to learn industry best practices and refine technical skills.

Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on advancements in BIM software and design methodologies.

Competencies

Strong conceptual and client‑service skills for effective problem‑solving.

Robust organizational skills, managing tight schedules, meeting deadlines, and handling budgets.

Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication and interaction.

Superior technical and layout design skills.

Food Service Design experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications & Experience

1–2 years of professional BIM experience, or equivalent military or practical experience.

Proficiency in advanced computer skills: Revit, Navisworks Manage, BIM360, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, AutoCAD, AutoQuotes, KCL, Skype, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred previous experience in the foodservice industry.

Ability to pass a background check after offer acceptance.
