Position Duties The Graphic Designer will report to and work closely with the Senior Graphic Design and Communications Team to develop compelling and effective graphics and imagery concepts to support visually telling the story of MSDE that engages, informs, and inspires stakeholders. As a member of the Communications team, the Graphic Designer will work on various communication projects that promote MSDE initiatives both internally and externally, collaborating with other agency offices and divisions. Projects will include web design, digital design (social media graphics, presentations, etc.) and print design (reports, 1 pagers, brochures, posters, manuals, etc.). The graphic designer will help ensure quality agency branding and messaging, ensuring that all materials are consistent with MSDE’s multi‑year strategic plan and Blueprint for Maryland’s Future initiatives.

Creates innovative design solutions for a variety of print and digital materials, including brochures, posters, infographics, reports, social media graphics, websites, and presentations.

Utilize design software such as Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) to create manuals, booklets, and visual graphics, content/graphics for social media and web platforms and visually appealing PowerPoint presentations.

Ensures all design solutions align with brand guidelines, standards, and templates.

Collaborates with MSDE offices and divisions to develop promotional materials.

Transforms complex data and information into visually compelling and easy‑to‑understand infographics and data visualizations.

Stays up‑to‑date with the latest design trends and emerging digital technologies. Integrates innovative design practices into agency materials and campaigns to engage the public effectively.

Conducts thorough reviews and proofreading to maintain accuracy and error‑free deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.

Selective Qualifications

One year of the required experience as a graphic designer

Completion of graphic design coursework that includes using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

Proficient with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) to create effective graphics for web and printed communications pieces (for example: annual reports, manuals, brochures, and trade show displays).

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Proficient with Pre‑press and knowledge of print production.

Knowledge of Canva

Special Requirements

Applicants must consent to a State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
