
Human Resources Director

The Human Resources Director will lead and oversee all HR functions for a unionized automotive manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that support business objectives, ensure labor compliance, strengthen employee relations, and drive organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in union relations, grievance management, change management, and organizational development within a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all human resources operations, including employee relations, labor relations, talent management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and organizational development
Serve as the primary HR leader for a
unionized workforce , managing labor relations, contract interpretation, grievance resolution, and arbitration processes
Partner closely with plant leadership and operations to support workforce planning, engagement, and performance management initiatives
Drive
change management and organizational development initiatives , supporting business transformation, restructuring, and continuous improvement efforts
Provide strategic HR guidance during organizational change, workforce transitions, and process improvements
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, labor agreements, and internal policies
Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs aligned with business goals and manufacturing operations
Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team, fostering a strong HR presence on the plant floor and across the organization
Analyze HR metrics and workforce data to inform decision‑making and improve organizational effectiveness
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Master’s degree or HR certification (SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, SPHR) preferred
10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience , including leadership responsibility
Union experience
within a manufacturing environment
Hands‑on grievance experience , including investigations, resolutions, and arbitration support
Automotive manufacturing experience
Demonstrated experience leading change management and organizational development initiatives
Strong working knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and employee relations best practices
Proven ability to partner effectively with operations, leadership, and union representatives
