Brivo, Austin, CO, United States
Department:
Engineering - Video
Employment Type:
Full Time
Location:
Austin
Reporting To:
Sr. Vice President - Video Engineering
Brivo and Eagle Eye Networks (EEN) have joined forces to create the world’s leading cloud-based security and video surveillance ecosystem. Together, we provide an integrated "system of intelligence" that protects over 600 million square feet across 90+ countries. We are seeking a Director of Engineering for Bridge & Devices to lead the teams responsible for the "intelligence at the edge".
In this role, you will provide technical and strategic leadership in a lean, fast-paced environment. You will drive the development of the Eagle Eye Networks “Bridge”—the critical Linux-based hardware that connects local area network cameras to our global cloud infrastructure. These devices are responsible for local video storage, secure cloud transmission, bandwidth optimization, and the execution of sophisticated AI and analytics processes at the edge. You will oversee the device-resident containerized software, as well as the cloud-resident control and management services.
As a leader in our Austin technology hub, you will be deeply engaged in the full development lifecycle—from discovery and design to global deployment and observation. You will champion an AI-augmented engineering culture, utilizing tools like Claude.ai and GitHub Copilot to accelerate development and unit testing. We are looking for a leader with a startup mindset who thrives when the "buck stops with them" and whose collective performance directly drives our global success.
Responsibilities
Strategic Roadmap & Vision: Collaborate with Executive Management and key stakeholders to plan and execute a multi-year roadmap that transitions legacy device architectures into modern, AI-integrated edge services.
Operational Excellence: Ensure the reliable operation and security of the existing global infrastructure in the field while coordinating backend evolution with cloud infrastructure teams.
Engineering Culture & AI Integration: Define and develop the culture for the device software engineering teams. Drive a mandate for software automation, reusability, and high efficiency by integrating the latest AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Testim.io, etc.).
Architectural Leadership: Implement best practices in software architectural design (microservices, containerization) and mentor senior staff and managers in these practices.
Team Orchestration: Manage daily operations for multiple sub-teams, establishing priorities, workflow roadmaps, and KPIs that measure the effectiveness and quality of team output.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Product, QA (Senior QA Manager), and Cloud teams to deliver synchronized hardware/software releases.
Talent Development: Directly supervise the work of software developers and managers; identify, recruit, and mentor the next generation of technical leaders in Austin.
Qualifications
Leadership Experience: 12+ years of increasing responsibility in device software development, including at least 5 years leading multi-functional engineering teams at scale.
Domain Expertise: Demonstrated technical knowledge of C and C++ languages and deep experience with Linux-based embedded devices and firmware.
Architectural Vision: Proven ability to envision and implement a roadmap for device-to-cloud system architecture in close collaboration with executive management.
Cloud-Native Proficiency: Deep experience in the deployment of web-scale tools and patterns, including Docker and Kubernetes, for edge environments.
Agile Mastery: History of driving agile development teams, potentially serving as a Scrum Master or Product Owner, to deliver high-impact solutions.
Video & IoT Protocols: Familiarity with video processing, codecs (H.264/H.265), and related network protocols (RTSP, ONVIF, MQTT).
SaaS Integration: Experience managing SaaS applications that mesh seamlessly with edge device software.
Communication & Presence: Excellent communication skills are mandatory. This role requires being on-site 5 days a week in our Austin, TX office to lead the local team and hardware labs.
Education: B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Bonus Points
Language experience in Java and Python.
Specific expertise in the physical security, surveillance, or IoT domains.
Experience leading "Legacy-to-Cloud" modernization projects.
