Position Summary The Senior Estimator leads the estimating process for both hard bid and negotiated commercial construction projects. This role prepares accurate project estimates, evaluates subcontractor proposals, manages multiple estimates, and mentors junior estimating staff.
This position works closely with the Director of Preconstruction to support project strategy, risk analysis, and successful project pursuit.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the full estimating process from document review through proposal submission
Prepare accurate estimates for competitive bid and negotiated projects
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids
Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost drivers
Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews
Build relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and vendors
Mentor and support Estimators and Junior Estimators
Participate in project handoff meetings and post-bid reviews
Qualifications
Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field — or equivalent experience
5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience
Strong knowledge of construction methods and subcontractor markets
Ability to manage multiple estimates and support team development
Typical Projects
Commercial construction projects including retail, industrial, healthcare, etc.
Project sizes typically ranging from $500K to $15M
Combination of hard bid and negotiated work
Work performed with a strong network of trusted subcontractors and trade partners
Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 per year Actual compensation is based on the fair market value of the role in the geographic area and the candidate’s experience and qualifications. This range represents a good‑faith estimate, and Maxwell Builders reserves the right to adjust compensation based on candidate qualifications.
