The Opportunity The Middle School STEM Director of Curriculum and Instruction (STEM DCI) serves as an instructional leader who coaches and supervises science and math teachers at Match Middle School. The STEM DCI reports directly to the Principal and will lead the school’s educational program to drive the growth and success of teachers and students. Compensation begins at $108,171 and varies with experience; benefits include up to 90% coverage of employee health insurance costs and up to $150/month in loan repayment assistance.
Detailed Job Responsibilities Teaching staff growth and performance:
The STEM DCI employs a data‑driven approach to support teacher success, including weekly professional development, lesson plan feedback, observations, and collaborative instructional planning. The DCI works with the Principal to drive the instructional vision, hiring decisions, evaluation, and retention of teachers.
Curriculum and pedagogy leadership:
Collaborate closely with the Principal and academic leaders to develop and implement the middle school curriculum and assessments, ensuring alignment to state and national standards and facilitating effective co‑teaching collaboration.
Grade‑level / department lead support:
Manage and foster strong adult culture and teacher leadership among lead teachers.
Strategic planning:
Partner with the leadership team on long‑range planning for school culture, academic program design, staff development, retention, course offerings, and curriculum refinement.
Sample tasks and projects:
Observe every supervised staff member at least once per week
Hold weekly one‑on‑one meetings with each staff member
Read and internalize curriculum unit plans, assessments, and problem sets
Plan and lead unit study and lesson study meetings with teachers
Provide feedback on weekly lesson plans to ensure curriculum alignment
Collaborate with grade‑level teams on grading and score norming for mastery
Review student work, course data, and unit test data for each course overseen
Help teachers action‑plan data from courses they oversee
Lead school‑wide professional development in partnership with the Principal and leadership
Participate in observational rounds with the Principal and other instructional leaders to maintain instructional excellence and identify next steps for struggling teachers

At least 5 years of full‑time lead teaching experience, preferably in a Title I school
Prior experience leading and coaching teams of teachers
Passing score on Communications and Literacy MTEL, or ability to obtain one within one year of hire
