Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 7 years of related professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting facultypersonnel actions and compensation processes within a higher education environment.

Demonstrated experience conducting salary analyses, compensation benchmarking, and internal equity reviews.

Experience advising senior leadership (e.g., Deans, Vice Presidents, or executive administrators) on personnel or compensation matters.

Knowledge of University System of Georgia (USG) and University of Georgia (UGA) policies or experience working within a system-level governance structure.

Experience working with HRIS systems such as Workday, OneUSG Connect, or PeopleSoft.

Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with senior administrators and provide strategic guidance on human resources and compensation matters.

Position Summary The Director of Academic Affairs HR Operations & Compensation provides executive-level leadership and institutional oversight of compensation, hiring, and human resource operations for units reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

This position serves as the senior HR and compensation advisor to the AVP for Academic Fiscal Affairs and the Provost’s Office, exercising delegated authority over faculty salary actions, supplements, extra compensation, retire/rehire approvals, and executive-level hiring processes.

The Director conducts complex internal and external salary analyses, develops strategic compensation recommendations, and prepares materials for review by University Human Resources and the University System of Georgia. The role advises Deans, Vice Presidents, CBOs, and senior administrators on compensation strategy, policy interpretation, and institutional risk mitigation.

Although this position does not directly supervise staff, it exercises functional leadership and approval authority across multiple colleges and administrative units. The Director operates with substantial autonomy and institutional impact and represents the Provost’s Office in university-wide HR and compensation initiatives.

Comprehensive knowledge of UGA and USG human resources policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

Strong understanding of compensation structures, salary administration, and related institutional limitations.

Demonstrated ability to lead a small team and manage projects from initiation to completion.

Skilled in building positive relationships and working effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators across the university.

Experience interacting with senior administration and representing the Provost’s Office in university-wide initiatives.

Strategic Compensation Oversight Deliver university-wide oversight, support, and guidance on the faculty compensation and salary action processes.

Provide enterprise-level oversight of faculty compensation strategy

Conduct advanced salary analysis (internal equity, compression, market benchmarking)

Develop and present compensation recommendations to executive leadership

Prepare documentation and analysis for UHR and USG review and approval

Exercise approval authority for extra compensation and retire/rehire actions

Lead retention and merit-related compensation reviews

Serve as primary HR liaison between the Provost’s Office and Central HR, EOO, and USG

Interpret and apply UGA/USG policy for senior administrators and academic units

Advise Deans, VPs, and CBOs on compensation and hiring strategy

Ensure institutional compliance and mitigate policy risk
