Overview Eaton’s ES AMER ARS PDCAD division is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer (COD) to work at our growing facility in Sumter, SC. This role will focus on mechanical design and documentation support for our electrical switchgear and control products, using CAD technology for 2D/3D designs. Responsibilities include collaborating with Customer Order Engineers, Application Engineers, and Manufacturing Associates, utilizing design automation software, and producing/managing manufacturing documentation.

What You’ll Do

Work to standard procedures or written and oral instructions from supervisor.

Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude and familiarity in reading schematic diagrams to determine design requirements.

Prepare complex layouts, circuit diagrams, sketches, and drawings for electrically focused roles, or coordinate bus connection details, 3‑D models, flat files, and drawings for mechanically focused roles.

Manage Manufacturing and Engineering Change Notices.

Demonstrate advanced computer skills and ability to learn required software (Bid Manager, AutoCAD, Inventor, Design Automation, MAPICS).

Interpret engineering work packages to develop designs and manufacturing information packages.

Coordinate with different organizational levels to ensure schedules are met.

Review Bill of Materials for editing and accuracy.

Handle multiple projects/assignments/duties simultaneously.

Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Engineering/Design Technology or equivalent, completed or to be completed by end of 2026.

3 months of experience in 3D CAD or equivalent coursework, or 3 months of experience with electrical circuits and principles.

Location: candidates must reside within 50 miles of Sumter, SC (active‑Duty Military Service members exempt).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum one year of experience in drafting or design of electrical switchgear or control products.

Skills

Understanding and application of drafting standards and techniques (using computer‑aided engineering software).

Capability to visualize components, features, and assemblies in three‑dimensional space.li>

Proficiency with required engineering software tools and common computer software (word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheets).

Additional Information – Quality Systems / Corporate Programs Ensure compliance with ISO 9000‑2000, ISO 14001, Underwriters Laboratory, NEMA, Eaton Business System (EBS), Management of Environmental Safety and Health (MESH), and other applicable programs.
