Job Overview
CGS is seeking a Senior FOIA Paralegal for a full‑time, mid‑level position in the Legal Department. The role supports the legal mission of a large federal agency by performing legal review, FOIA request processing, and other litigation support tasks.
Responsibilities
Conduct searches and analyze result sets to separate non‑responsive documents from responsive documents and screen responsive documents for privilege or FOIA exemptions.
Redact and code responsive documents.
Perform legal research.
Draft legal documents.
Consistently deliver the highest quality work under extreme pressure.
Read, write, speak, and understand English.
Work independently.
Obtain and maintain a government security clearance as required.
Utilize ESI tools and apply eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Use a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
Qualifications
Paralegal certificate, a law degree (JD), or current enrollment in an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.
Experience with Nuix Investigate, Relativity, or other eDiscovery and document review tools.
Experience processing FOIA requests.
Demonstrated knowledge of FOIA rules, regulations, and exemptions.
Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation, memorandum drafting, and proficiency with research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications.
Preferred Experience
Two years of experience using Nuix Investigate for document review and tagging.
Two years of experience processing FOIA requests for federal agencies.
Fluency in statutory and regulatory guidelines for FOIA responses.
