Description About the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP): The NASA Postdoctoral Program offers unique research opportunities to highly talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA‑affiliated research institute. These are one- to three-year fellowships that advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

This opportunity is closed to Senior Fellows (5 years or more past PhD).

Atmospheric chemistry is inextricably linked to climate. Many reactive atmospheric constituents influence radiation and clouds. Meteorology transports short‑lived climate forcers and their precursors and influences their removal from the atmosphere and emission from natural sources such as vegetation and lightning. Emissions of short and long‑lived climate forcers and their precursors also change with human activity. We investigate the influence of the interplay between anthropogenic and natural processes on reactive gases and aerosols on global scales and timescales of years to millennia. This research opportunity seeks applicants interested in global‑scale gaseous chemical mechanism development related to ozone, methane, reactive carbon and nitrogen species, and investigating Earth system processes related to vegetation, the ocean, fires, and/or ice, and their impacts on oxidation, air pollution, climate forcing, and stratospheric processes such as heterogeneous chemistry and multiphase chemistry, via atmospheric chemistry. A strong background or interest in modeling is required.
