Position Overview
Maine Central Institute is seeking a full-time faculty member to join the Humanities Department beginning in August for the 2026-2027 school year. The institution seeks an applicant with the experience and ability to teach Business and Entrepreneurship subjects. The Business Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards‑based instruction in business‑related subjects to students in grades 9–12, with an emphasis on experiential learning. This role focuses on developing students’ understanding of business principles, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, economics, and career readiness skills while fostering critical thinking, ethical decision‑making, and real‑world application through partnerships.
Founded in 1866, Maine Central Institute is an independent town academy serving students in grades 9-12 from surrounding local communities as well as international students from over 20 countries. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to teach at an independent residential school. Each faculty member is expected to contribute to the co‑curricular environment at MCI. This position has a training start date of August 20, 2026.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher; a master’s degree in education or business is preferred.
Ability to teach multiple upper‑level courses (may include AP Business, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Microeconomics).
Prior high‑school teaching experience is required; experience with students with a wide range of abilities and international students is preferred.
Proficiency in the use of instructional technology; experience with a 1:1 program is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, peers, and supervisors.
Proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and to drive instruction.
