Position Specifics Transportation Services , a unit within Auxiliary and Business Services, is seeking a
Marketing and Communications Specialist
to support a broad range of transportation-related programs, including campus parking operations, event parking, campus transit, bike programs, fleet services, and campus and community ridesharing initiatives. The role develops and implements marketing and communication strategies across digital, print, web, social media, email, and event promotion channels to increase awareness and support departmental goals.
Responsibilities
Create, edit, and enhance content for websites, articles, feature stories, brochures, newsletters, advertisements, and fact sheets.
Coordinate the production of marketing and promotional materials across print, digital, social, and emerging media.
Prepare creative briefs and present concepts to internal clients and stakeholders.
Edit and proofread communications for accuracy, clarity, accessibility, and alignment with AP style and University standards.
Monitor media coverage and track analytics for websites, social media, and digital campaigns.
Ensure compliance with accessibility requirements, confidentiality policies, and branding guidelines.
Translate technical or operational subject matter into clear, audience‑appropriate messaging.
Participate in the planning and development of marketing and communications strategies, incorporating research and analytics.
Plan and support promotional activities for Transportation Services events.
Collaborate with internal partners, agencies, and vendors on marketing initiatives.
Communicate project and campaign status to clients and management.
Provide guidance or supervision to part‑time or student employees supporting marketing activities.
Required Competencies
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in marketing strategy, content creation, social media management, and public relations.
Ability to manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Experience with analytics tools, accessibility standards, CMS platforms, and digital advertising (preferred).
Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or similar creative applications for producing visual and digital marketing materials.
This position may require occasional evening, weekend, or outdoor work in support of Transportation Services events and outreach.
Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. No certifications required.
Background Checks/Clearances Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa.
Salary & Benefits Salary range: $51,000.00 – $74,000.00.
