Recreation About this Opportunity This position is responsible for: Plans, coordinates, directs, evaluates and manages the overall daily operations of the designated Center, with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, program safety, community relations, and youth membership administration. Manages the delivery and supervision of a variety of youth programs within a specific center. Supervises a team of Program Instructors ensuring compliance with operational, program and safety standards. Coordinates services with local schools, referral sources, and students. Represents the Center in the community and builds a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army. May be required to transport youth center members and staff to/from center and approved activities and events. Serves as a liaison with Corps programming staff to identify and incorporate mission alignment and outcomes. Participates in the Salvation Army’s ministry advancement by collaborating with the Salvation Army Officers to ensure Red Shield Youth Centers provide an engaging, enriching and empowering environment where youth develop Christ-like character, preparing them to become tomorrow’s leaders Key Responsibilities: Manages the daily facility operations and approved program operations for a designated Center; ensures facility operations and regular daily programming are conducted according to the design and intent set forth in the operational plan. Reviews programming schedules and ensures alignment with program curriculum and activities. Ensures that programs operations are safe and drive desired outcomes. Establishes program operations and objectives consistent with organizational goals and missions. Demonstrates acceptable youth development leadership skills to assure conduct, safety, and development of youth. Participates in youth program activities to maintain good public relations for programs, services, and activities. Works with the Manager of Program Services monthly to review and update the supplies, equipment, and curriculum needed to conduct programs safely and effectively. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to remain in stationary position frequently. Occasionally move about the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, attend meetings and the like. Frequently move about the community to complete job duties. Frequently operate a computer and other office equipment such as a copy machine, printer, and the like. Frequently communicates with staff, partners, community, and the like to conduct regular business operations. Seldom move boxes or items weighing up to 25 pounds. Daily operation and use of software and computer applications required for business functions. Occasional to frequent operation of a personal motor vehicle and operation of company vehicle relevant to carrying out job duties required for the position. Frequently spend time in intense concentration reviewing and entering information into computer. Ability to communicate with individuals utilizing a telephone, computer, or other electronic device. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words, communicating orally with others accurately and clearly. Ability to drive an approved vehicle to transport youth center staff and members in a safe manner obeying all driving requirements and standards. Position requires travel within the community and to participate in off-site Center events. May require travel outside of the geographic area of Center location. This job is performed in a youth center environment and out in the community. Time is also spent at facilities similar to youth recreational facility or community center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and at times loud. Work sites are often located in low-income areas and challenging neighborhoods. Position requires employees to occasionally work with challenging youth and family members: Speak with or assist upset parents/guardians. Occasionally to frequently speak with upset external partners or community members. May be exposed to emotional outbursts from youth or their family members and may be exposed to germs and children who are ill. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position requires regular business hours, afternoon, evening, nights, and weekends as needed to provide oversight to programs, attend events and address urgent matters.
