Commercial Roofing crew management experience and proficiency with computers is required to be considered for this position.
We are seeking a
Commercial Roofing Superintendent
to oversee the planning, implementation, and tracking of commercial roof projects from beginning to end. The role coordinates closely with all parties involved and provides frequent updates.
Nations Roof , one of the largest commercial roofing contractors in the U.S., handles projects ranging from large‑scale new construction to complete tear‑offs, re‑roofing, renovations of existing building exteriors, and ongoing roof maintenance, inspection, and repairs of all major commercial roof systems.
Job Summary : The Superintendent, under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager (or other direct report listed above), is responsible for leading roofing foremen and/or subcontractors to perform work safely and productively per specifications and to the standards of the company and customer.
Responsibilities and Functions
Provide leadership to foremen—fostering safety, teamwork, and discipline—to achieve efficient and professional roof system installation.
Consistently provide high‑quality service and results.
Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with customers, personnel, and the public.
Effectively manage all aspects of production to meet company and project goals.
Supervise foremen to lead safe and efficient roof system installations.
Oversee field staff and/or subcontractors, assisting with crew leadership as required.
Conduct or participate in safety audits and ensure subcontractor compliance with NR expectations, including safety requirements, weekly toolbox talks, and inspection reports for equipment such as stair towers and forklifts.
Resolve complaints and grievances; assist with discipline when necessary.
Maintain production and quality goals, recording efforts by photographs and using tools such as a periodic probing plan.
Maintain understanding of contract information for jobs.
Track labor hours and production against stated goals, and obtain pictures to verify accurate time recording.
Schedule materials, equipment, and deliveries, paying special attention to using inventoried materials.
Monitor material usage, minimize waste, anticipate shortages, and order materials as needed.
Coordinate, supervise, and manage subcontractors.
Monitor quality of installations, including destructive testing, to ensure proper installation techniques and trained crew.
Engage with customers to answer questions and provide explanations.
Schedule daily or weekly contact with customers to review progress.
Discuss any outstanding issues with customers and other parties.
Meet with customers to verify satisfaction with work and billing; deliver warranties.
Review plans and sites, delegate crews, and do all pre‑job planning including site‑specific safety plans and work plan efficiencies.
Ensure crews have necessary information and instructions; notify Operations Manager and Senior Project Manager if information is missing.
Submit reports and paperwork on time, coordinating communication between office and job sites, including daily project reports and other required reports.
Investigate incidents, near misses, accidents, and thefts, providing relevant documents, photos, and assessments to the office.
Deliver all documentation to the office in a timely manner; logging required daily, not accumulated.
Review final paperwork to ensure change orders are reflected and billed.
Participate in manufacturer final inspection.
Participate in regular review meetings with project managers.
Demonstrate commitment to professional development.
Demonstrate willingness to be a team player.
Offer assistance and expertise to others.
Assist Project Managers in preparing, reviewing, and administering contractual proposals, contracts, and purchase orders related to construction projects.
Work closely with permit expeditors, project managers, design team, and consultants to monitor and expedite the development process.
Maintain relationships between the organization and outside consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
Maintain and update project‑management/development tracking tools, Salesforce, and other business tools as needed.
Track and maintain Salesforce software for project information and updates in a timely manner.
Receive, organize, and maintain all construction documents.
Perform site take‑offs and communicate information to Estimating in a timely, clear and accurate manner. When take‑off information cannot be relayed by the day following the site visit, communicate via email to Estimating the day of the take‑off, with reasons why it is not possible.
Other duties as assigned.
Travel will be required 90% of the time.
Skills and Qualifications
5 years commercial roofing experience or equivalent experience servicing the commercial roofing marketplace.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with roof installation of large retail facilities ("Big Box").
Experience managing roofing crews and subcontractors.
Experience with a wide range of commercial roofing systems and manufacturers.
Experience with Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and/or construction project management software; highly preferred.
Ability to read and understand specifications and blueprints.
Basic computer skills—Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Willingness to be trained and to use company software.
Must be able to travel frequently.
Requires a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
