Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of this position is to direct and manage the Chancellor’s comprehensive executive communications portfolio, including written, digital, and media-facing communications. The Director provides strategic counsel, prepares executive messaging, oversees the Chancellor’s public and digital presence, and coordinates media engagement in partnership with University Relations.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in executive communications, speechwriting, media relations, or strategic communications.

Demonstrated experience directly supporting senior executive leadership in a complex organization.

Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex institutional issues into clear and compelling messaging.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Experience in higher education, government, or similarly complex institutions strongly desired.

Demonstrated political acumen, discretion, and executive-level judgment.

Experience serving as a principal speechwriter for a president, chancellor, CEO, or comparable executive.

Experience managing executive social media presence and media engagement.

Remote/Hybrid Work Arrangement On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site).
