Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Director of Interior Design will oversee diverse hospitality projects, both domestic and international. These projects range from multi‑million‑dollar capital projects, new ground‑up projects, pre‑development and planning across all our business lines, including luxury hotel suites, VIP amenities, food and beverage, public spaces, retail, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), gaming, and luxury amenities such as spas, health clubs, VIP reception areas, executive lounges, and private jets.
As the Design Lead, you will drive the design development of assigned projects, ensuring adherence to Sands design standards, consultant deliverables, project schedules, and budgets. All duties are performed in accordance with departmental and Las Vegas Sands Corp. policies, practices, and procedures. Team members are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times and observe company standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lead and manage team members and consultants, interfacing with internal departments such as legal, procurement, accounting, compliance, sustainability, marketing, and investor relations at both the corporate and regional levels.
Communicate effectively and present executive presentations concisely.
Create and review RFPs and proposals, establishing scope of services and technical requirements.
Conduct pre‑planning studies, including space evaluations, test fits, project duration, and schedule.
Review RFP packages, evaluate proposals, conduct post‑bid tender interviews, and make bid award recommendations.
Direct external and internal design teams to ensure “Design Excellence” that meets schedules and budgets.
Foster a culture of integrity, teamwork, communication, creativity, and strong project delivery for internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Manage the ID delivery process for new projects and CAPEX initiatives, recommending enhancements to improve asset value and guest experience.
Incorporate stakeholder requirements into project planning with DPM Project Executive Directors and Project Managers.
Present progress design updates, space planning, layouts, elevations, and FFE selections to corporate leaders for approval.
Provide schedule summaries and budget trackers; identify risks and recommend solutions.
Create Design Briefs for each project, defining visual cues for consultant teams.
Recommend and approve design consultants from leading firms.
Support the project delivery team with design‑related quality deliverables.
Communicate in oral, written, and graphical formats to illustrate solutions.
Facilitate collaborative work sessions and foster positive team relationships.
Support Commercial and Procurement teams with schedules, budgets, RFPs, deliverables, and contract resolutions.
Approve finish samples, FFE selections, decorative lighting, artwork, and accessories ensuring coherence with the design vision.
Monitor and report on interior design progress, recommending solutions for cost and time constraints.
Review consultant milestones, building code compliance, and drawing accuracy.
Review material submissions for validity and performance.
Ensure safety for all team members, consultants, and end users.
Maintain regular attendance and be available outside general workdays; travel domestically and internationally is required.
Perform duties in a safe manner and attend work as scheduled.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
21 years of age and currently employed in the hospitality industry.
Proof of authorization to work in the United States.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited interior design or architectural program; professional certification preferred.
10+ years of experience in hospitality interior practices, with at least 2 years in design management.
Extensive experience leading the design of high‑end luxury hospitality spaces.
Ability to manage several large‑scale projects with attention to detail and overall design aesthetic.
Experience representing clients on international developments preferred.
Team‑oriented, entrepreneurial, and capable of multitasking.
Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Bluebeam, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
Multi‑language skills are a plus but not required.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Understanding of construction methods and means.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with executives, operators, owners, and other team members.
Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
