Director Pharmacy Benefit Strategy

Job Summary and Qualifications The Pharmacy Benefit Account Director is the principal contact for large, complex HealthTrust PBM Program member companies and serves as a trusted advisor by engaging member company executives and their consulting partners regularly. The Account Director works with member companies through the implementation process and then continues to support them by ensuring the PBM supplier partner is delivering on all services in accordance with the contract and experiencing superior account management service that results in member loyalty and retention. The Account Director effectively analyzes and interprets various data sources and reports and presents key opportunities and other information to the member companies to drive value and savings that enhance the member company’s pharmacy benefit performance. In addition, the Account Director will have functional responsibilities for the PBM Program such as global communications, management for some of the custom programs, key consultant relationship management, reporting and analytics, and other program management as needed.

The ability to travel up to 30%, including overnight travel, is required for the role.

What you will do in this role:

Serves as a trusted advisor to large, complex HealthTrust PBM Program member companies.

Regularly engages member company executives and their consulting partners.

Supports the implementation process to ensure a successful implementation.

Ensures the PBM supplier partner delivers on all services in accordance with the contract and provides superior account management service.

Supports the member companies in meeting their specific targets for contract performance, trend management, savings, and strategic objectives.

Analyzes and interprets various data sources and reports and presents key opportunities and other information to the member companies to drive value and savings that enhance the member company’s pharmacy benefit performance.

Leads solution development efforts that best address member company needs, while coordinating the involvement of all necessary HealthTrust, Coalition Consultant, and PBM supplier personnel.

Builds strategic partnerships with the member company and their consulting team to further advance the employee benefit strategic plan and company goals.

Support the financial operations of the PBM Program.

Assists in the development of the PBM Program strategy.

Leads the engagement with certain consultant relationships and serves as their primary HealthTrust PBM Program liaison.

Provides leadership for custom programs.

Establishes strong relationships with internal and external team members.

Keeps the organization’s vision and values at the forefront of decision‑making and action.

What qualifications you need: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Advanced knowledge of employee pharmacy benefits, PBM industry, and PBM supplier operations.

Strong analytic skills—Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel with the ability to use functions such as Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc.

Advanced skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.

Ability to gather, analyze and interpret large amounts of data and apply it to make business and member company‑focused decisions.

Ability to demonstrate financial knowledge and business acumen.

Ability to work under consultative direction toward predetermined long‑range goals and objectives, where assignments are often self‑initiated.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization including the C‑Suite.

Exceptional project management, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and timelines.

Passion for results with the ability to drive high standards for self; tenaciously working to meet or exceed challenging goals.

Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as savings, rebates, fees, and percentages, as well as analyze statistical and financial data.

Ability to understand and interpret spreadsheets and contract language.

Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow with minimal direction.

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.

Ability to initiate tough conversations, effectively manage internal politics, and handle conflict in a healthy, relationship‑building manner.

Must demonstrate executive presence and emotional intelligence, remaining calm and confident in challenging situations.

Excellent time management skills with ability to use independent judgment effectively.

Ability to execute, both independently and as a collaborate member of various internal and external teams.

Ability to execute effectively without constant oversight, yet understanding when it is appropriate to consult with leadership.

Education, Experience, & Licensure:

Bachelor’s degree in business or management-related field required.

PharmD or other advance degree preferred.

Minimum 6+ years of strategic account management experience with a pharmacy benefit manager and/or a large employee benefit consulting firm with a focus on pharmacy benefit and/or a senior benefit professional at a large company.

Project management experience.

Proficiency Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Consulting experience a plus.

Registered pharmacist a plus.
