Description Of Work The College of Arts and Sciences seeks applications and nominations for the Director of the Center for Great Plains Studies. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UNL, and the appointment will be 0.50 FTE.

Primary areas of responsibility will likely include:

Provide leadership to the staff, students, faculty, and Fellows in the Center for Great Plains Studies, whose mission is to promote understanding of and appreciation for the people, cultures, and natural environment of the Great Plains.

Enhance the Center’s research, teaching, and outreach programs and link them in supportive ways to College and University priorities.

Administration of programs, including the Great Plains Art Museum, production of referred journals, various editorial projects, public lectures and symposia, and the teaching program.

Work closely with the Board of Governors, the Board of Trustees, and the Fellows of the Center to advance interdisciplinary scholarship and outreach on the four campuses of the University of Nebraska and other regional research and teaching centers across North America.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Demonstrable leadership ability, excellent interpersonal skills, and a vision for enhancing a center with a significant national and international reputation.

Broad-ranging knowledge of the sciences, arts, and humanities is important, as is the ability to manage art collections.

Candidates must be currently tenured faculty members at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with active scholarship or creative activity in topics related to the Great Plains.

Preferred Qualifications

Department or College leadership experience.
