Job Description The U.S. healthcare system is complex. For AbbVie to lead the industry in this environment, it is vital that our US Market Access (USMAx) Pipeline Team thoroughly comprehend the evolving U.S. healthcare space and market access channels.
The Director, USMAx Pipeline is an individual contributor who will lead U.S. market access strategy development for early pipeline priority assets within Immunology. This Director will directly integrate an understanding of the U.S. health system and payer needs into early asset development, bringing the voice of U.S. payers to our early drug development process.
Responsibilities include:
Lead U.S. market access strategy development for early pipeline priority assets.
Build relationships and influence cross‑functional teams in Pipeline Commercialization Strategy (PCS) and Commercial Leadership.
Co‑lead the Value and Access Teams (VATs) with International Market Access (IMAP) colleagues.
Lead creation of US Early Integrated Value Propositions (EIVPs) and US Market Access Strategies.
Support Asset Strategy Team discussions and provide leadership in other Pipeline Commercialization Model teams.
Ensure integration within the AbbVie Pipeline Commercialization Model and project deliverables.
Apply deep USMAx insights to support optimal asset development through the 1‑7‑5 model.
Initiate market shaping and support hand‑off to USMAx Marketing for launch readiness.
Serve as primary point of contact for USMAx Pipeline stakeholders.
Act as a subject‑matter expert at governance reviews (TASC, LMG, DRC).
Contribute strategic thinking to inform access and pricing assumptions for LRP.
Lead USMAx financial LRP and strategic LRP assumptions for assigned assets.
Partner with IRA and cross‑strategy teams for optimal asset planning.
Specific Accountabilities
Responsible for access point of view and creation of Integrated Asset Strategies, Early Integrated Value Propositions and Disease Area Strategies.
Collaborate with BUs, PCS, IMAP, Medical, HEOR, CBSO, IRA, R&D and others to embed USMAx decision‑maker value drivers.
Inform clinical development programs with endpoints and evidence generation plans supporting patient access.
Secure and allocate budgets for asset assignments to meet enterprise goals.
Embed USMAx insights in early pipeline strategies to support asset development.
Initiate market shaping and timely hand‑off to USMAx Marketing.
Provide strong asset leadership and serve as primary contact for stakeholders.
Act as partner to internal stakeholders driving early pipeline strategy.
Represent USMAx Early Pipeline as a subject‑matter expert at governance reviews.
Contribute strategic thinking for access and pricing assumptions.
Serve as pipeline lead for USMAx financial and strategic LRP assumptions.
Work closely with USMAx teams and stay current on channel dynamics.
Partner with IRA and cross‑strategy teams for optimal asset planning.
Demonstrate enterprise mindset and leadership, acting as a role model.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Proven ability to influence without authority and navigate complex organizational dynamics.
Subject‑matter expertise in commercial and government payer space.
U.S. market access experience across multiple roles is preferred.
Expertise in developing early payer value propositions preferred.
Experience leading primary and secondary payer research projects.
Knowledge of government contracting, acquisition trends, and market access roles across the patient journey.
Experience in pipeline development or market access launches within the disease area.
Experience with pharmacy and medical benefit products, pricing, GtN, and acquisition models.
Experience with disease‑area competitive environment and clinical trial endpoints preferred.
Strong strategic thinking, communication skills, and executive presence required.
Financial acumen and ability to comprehend complex planning scenarios required.
