
Mechanical Engineer & Designer

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing mechanical systems for all projects assigned to him/her by the engineering manager. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing all design aspects of the project from conception to completion, with minimal assistance from senior staff.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for drafting the design on AutoCAD. This position will require some travelling and will essentially require you to be on the construction site, in some cases at least once a week. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to hold project meetings with owners and contractors.
Key Responsibility Areas
Develop, monitor and control Project scope, project schedule, budget and resources within the customers’ established guidelines in order to meet or exceed the customers’ expectation.
Obtain, diagnose and respond to specific customer needs that will enhance the quality of customers’ service and satisfaction for a mutually beneficial relationship.
Initiate, complete and deliver all related project documentation, reports in order to maintain and achieve the established project goals.
Promote services to existing customer base while conducting services for them.
Identify and initiate key design issues and solutions in the beginning of projects.
Technical Skills
Understands and proficient in the consulting engineering business, design and bid documents, change orders, meeting notes, codes, etc.
Understands mechanical distribution system-Voltage, current, power and power factor, single vs. three phase power distribution system on construction documents and in the field.
Understands and capable of designing the following systems:
Heat gain and heat loss load analysis
Water system applications (hot, chilled, glycol)
Steam system applications
Refrigerant system applications
Automatic temperature control systems
Sanitary DWV piping systems
Domestic hot and cold water systems
Fuel oil piping systems
Equipment selection and analysis
Understands Building Codes – NEC, BOCA, OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASPE, etc.
Proficient in Specification writing and method of procedure writing.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD, MS project.
Understands and capable of providing construction estimate.
Problem Solving Expertise
The rational approach to the processes involved in identifying and defining the project goals and problems, selecting and implementing alternative solutions strategies, the management of resources and contingencies and reducing performance deviations.
Demonstrated leadership in the attitudes and behaviors in the effective assessment management and adaptability required in handling situations (including decision making, behavior, conflict management, negotiations scenario’s etc.)
Planning
Competency in strategic and operational planning methods and procedures, the monitoring and measurement of targeted results, resource allocation and management practices.
Managerial
The basic set of managerial task management attributes involving directing, implementing, motivating and evaluation of general work environment (in the office and at the construction site) for the purpose of accomplishing specific, targeted objectives.
Communications
Good communications skills required to effectively conduct daily management of project personnel – contractors & owners.
Key Measurement Areas
Achieve mutually agreed project goals established by the customers and company. This includes project budget and schedule.
Monitor and maintain project expenses to achieve maximum profitability on every project.
Achieve engineering goals as established by the CEO.
