Section Director of Transfusion Medicine We are seeking a pathology physician to serve as Section Director of Transfusion Medicine—a rare opportunity to lead, innovate, and shape the future of pediatric transfusion and cellular therapy services. In this role, you will provide strategic and clinical oversight of the Transfusion Medicine Service, which currently performs approximately 9,000 transfusions per year and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You will support the continued growth and expansion of the program, ensuring the highest standards are maintained throughout this exciting period of advancement. With full institutional approval already secured, the program is actively pursuing FACT accreditation, opening the door to expanded care for children with cancer and blood disorders. This next chapter includes the expansion of cellular and gene therapy services and autologous bone marrow transplantation.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic and clinical oversight of the Transfusion Medicine Service.
Support growth and expansion of the program, ensuring high standards of care.
Collaborate with a collegial, multispecialty group of eight pathologists and consulting clinical and surgical services.
Share call responsibilities with an established local moonlighting team on an approximate 1:4 rotation.
Qualifications
BC/BE in Clinical Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
BC/BE in Transfusion Medicine.
Experience building or advancing cellular therapy programs toward FACT accreditation.
Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
Knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications.
In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and best practices.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Respect for patient confidentiality.
Compassionate and approachable.
Responsible and trustworthy.
Physical Demands Physical demands of this position include frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of instruments or supplies. All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and compliance with the U.S. Government Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
