
Fundraising Director

(GWSC) is an environmental justice (EJ) organization focused on investing in the leadership of youth from EJ communities in New Bedford through leadership development, workforce programs, and environmental stewardship. We prioritize community-driven action that addresses issues of environmental, racial, and social justice and equity.
Position Summary: The Fundraising Director will play a pivotal role in advancing GWSC’s mission through building and stewarding the relationships that drive Groundwork Southcoast’s diversified funding strategy. This role leads relationship development to achieve long‑term, sustainable revenue growth aligned with GWSC’s mission and strategy.
Key Responsibilities: Development and Fundraising Excellence (60%):
Drive the achievement and expansion of annual and 5 year fundraising strategic goals including meeting annual fundraising and diversification goals paired with working towards financial sustainability.
Lead efforts to expand GWSC's fundraising capacity with a particular focus on cultivating relationships to increase diversified and unrestricted funding.
Youth and professional staff centric Development & Fundraising:
Invest in Youth Workforce members through training and supporting to lead specific fundraising activities.
Coordinate with each member of the GWSC professional team to lead on specific fundraising activities.
Leading process of donor cultivation: thank you's, asks, and other forms of donor engagement are on time and following best practices, and standardized as donor cultivation is expanded.
Ensure flow of funding, including processing mail, documenting, and ensuring timely depositing of funding.
Maintain and refine Development and Fundraising manual(s) annually to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
Groundwork Southcoast Coordination (40%):
Be a key member of GWSC’s Directors’ team, including driving strategic planning and iterative goal setting. We’re a young organization that seeks to be community driven: our strategy must be nimble and responsive.
Ensure timely and effective record keeping of development work, including data collection, documentation, and progress reporting.
All FTE staff have a relationship to fundraising. Be a mentor to each, including ensuring regular check‑ins.
Providing weekly check‑ins with any direct reports.
Attend all staff meetings and meetings with supervisor.
As a Director, drive the growth of GWSC, including stepping in to lead on grantmaking/ reporting when/if/as needed, and being willing to lead other projects and fulfill other duties as needed.
Qualifications: ~10 years of experience demonstrated experience in the key responsibilities above, and any combination of education and/or experience, including related experience, is welcome:
Adept at cultivating and meeting fundraising goals, including annual and long term diversification goals.
Strong dedication to and/or lived experience in environmental justice (EJ) communities, particularly those impacted by climate change, food insecurity, and environmental justice issues, with a focus on uplifting historically underrepresented and marginalized communities.
Ability to drive strategy, mission, and goal achievement while centering values and upholding organizational culture.
Experienced at leading or supporting the creation and management of annual budgets.
Collaborate effectively in a hybrid work environment.
