Underwriting Assistant – Facultative Casualty

The Facultative Casualty Department of Everest Reinsurance Company, a member of Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to support our Casualty/Professional Facultative Underwriting team based in Chicago. In this role, you will work closely with Underwriters to support the underwriting process by performing associated technical, administrative, and analytical functions. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail‑oriented, comfortable in a paperless environment, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, production‑oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities
Triage and set up new business and renewal submissions
Rate new and renewal submissions using proprietary rating systems
Review incoming submissions for completeness, accuracy, and quality
Gather and analyze underwriting information, including experience and CAB reports
Perform data entry related to reinsurance contracts and underwriting processes
Utilize industry websites and tools to obtain supplemental account information
Adhere to departmental processing guidelines and participate in quality control and peer review activities
Manage underwriting files within internal paperless systems and follow up on outstanding information
Support underwriting relationships by providing timely responses to service inquiries
Prepare and issue official documents, including binders, certificates, and endorsements
Interface internally with claims, billing, and audit teams as needed
Support internal reporting and special projects as assigned
Qualifications, Education & Experience
Minimum 3 years of commercial insurance or reinsurance experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills required
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build rapport with underwriters, clients, and business partners
Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑volume environment
Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude
Comfort using multiple systems and online reference tools
Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to meet multiple deadlines consistently
Benefits Base salary range: $50,000 – $70,000 annually. Compensation is based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
