Security Designer III

Sector is responsible for designing basic to advanced building systems, preparing design documents and performing engineering calculations in coordination with project teams and other disciplines. They may support project management activities and are responsible for task management and mentoring of less experienced designers, which may include directly supervising or managing others.

Job Responsibilities

Performs calculations and designs basic to advanced engineering systems with a high degree of independence.

Prepares basic to advanced system layouts, detailed drawings and schematics.

Reviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.

Prepares, reviews, and/or modifies reports, plans and designs for projects.

Produces design documents.

Performs research and makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems or equipment; evaluates products for their application.

Provides technical guidance to others and serves as a team leader.

Assists with developing, establishing and maintaining relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of business development and/or pursuit activities.

Participates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.

Fosters a client‑centric mindset and approach individually and within their team.

Communicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of work; maintains proactive communication throughout the project cycle.

Anticipates and answers questions from clients and architects.

Visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.

Assists in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as needed.

Identifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basis.

Proactively seeks opportunities for continuous learning and understanding of industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Products; acts as a resource for training or assisting others as needed.

Researches and reviews new products, industry trends and evolving codes and standards.

Proactively shares information and updates and related ideas and suggestions for technical and process improvements with peers and leaders.

Understands and applies Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies and procedures.

Performs a limited range of project management responsibilities under the supervision of experienced project managers; asks questions when performing unfamiliar tasks.

May support or be responsible for project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, coordinating design team, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions and coordinating project delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architecture) and at least 6 years of relevant experience, or 8 years of experience with a high school diploma or equivalent, is required.

Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferred.

Additional certifications and accreditations aligned with the relevant technical field (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD, etc.) preferred.

Certifications and accreditations aligned with sustainability backgrounds (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL, etc.) preferred.

Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards required, as well as a broad understanding of other engineering disciplines.

Advanced proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu required.

High technical aptitude; ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes; comfort with training others on systems and processes.

Team‑oriented and willing and able to function in a highly collaborative environment, in group projects and leading less experienced designers; able to work independently as needed.

Adapts to changing work environments, priorities and organizational needs.

Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and engineering design software applicable to your discipline or focus.

Must be a self‑starter, proactive and willing to help others as needed.

Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
