Job Overview An established community banking organization is seeking an experienced Vice President of Commercial Lending to join its commercial banking team. This role focuses on developing new commercial lending relationships, managing an existing loan portfolio, and supporting overall portfolio growth while maintaining strong credit quality. The ideal candidate will actively engage in business development, build long‑term relationships with local businesses, and manage commercial credit opportunities from origination through closing and portfolio management. This role requires strong financial analysis skills, commercial credit expertise, and the ability to generate new lending opportunities through networking and relationship building. This is an onsite role supporting lending operations in the greater metropolitan area.
Key Responsibilities Commercial Lending and Portfolio Management
Develop and manage a profitable commercial loan portfolio while maintaining strong credit quality standards.
Originate, structure, negotiate, and close commercial loans in accordance with internal lending policies and regulatory requirements.
Perform credit analysis and financial evaluation of commercial loan applications.
Compile and review financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant financial documentation for loan evaluation.
Monitor loan performance and conduct annual portfolio reviews to ensure continued credit quality.
Conduct site visits and collateral inspections as needed.
Manage loan lifecycle activities including origination, servicing, renewals, and collections.
Business Development and Relationship Management
Generate new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and community engagement.
Maintain and deepen relationships with existing commercial clients.
Identify opportunities to cross‑sell banking products and financial services to support client needs.
Conduct regular client meetings to understand business goals and provide appropriate financing solutions.
Credit Oversight and Compliance
Evaluate credit requests and approve or recommend credit decisions within assigned lending authority.
Present credit recommendations to internal loan committees when required.
Ensure all lending activities comply with bank policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate risk ratings and ensure proper portfolio monitoring.
Sales and Performance Goals
Achieve defined sales targets including loan growth, deposit growth, referral generation, and fee income.
Manage time effectively across sales, underwriting, portfolio management, and client relationship activities.
Collaborate with internal banking teams to deliver comprehensive financial solutions.
Required Qualifications Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum 4 years of commercial lending experience within a banking or financial services environment.
Demonstrated experience managing a commercial loan portfolio.
Strong understanding of financial statements, credit analysis, and underwriting standards.
Experience generating new commercial lending business through relationship development.
Preferred Background
Prior experience as a Credit Analyst or strong analytical background within commercial banking.
Experience working with commercial credit products and treasury or cash management services.
