Role Summary Firehawk Aerospace is seeking a Technical Writer with an aerospace and defense background. The position will report directly to the Chief Engineer and will support all areas of the organization (Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Business Development). The ideal candidate should be an effective communicator who works well in teams and with limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Writing, developing, and editing various types of documentation, including plans, reports, work instructions, program documentation, IRAD white papers, technical publications, strategic communication collateral, and government and business proposals

Collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, program management, and business development to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise narratives.

Determining the needs and technical knowledge of the target audience to adjust the tone, complexity, and format of the documentation appropriately

Reviewing and editing to ensure clarity, consistency, grammatical accuracy, and adherence to established style guides.

Creating or coordinating the inclusion of diagrams, flowcharts, screenshots, and other visual aids to enhance user comprehension.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Engineering, or related field

5+ years of professional experience in technical writing or strategic communications in defense or similar advanced tech field

Familiarity with DoD solicitations and proposal workflows

Experience writing technical proposals for business to business or business to government opportunities.

Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation, with a strong focus on attention to detail, technical accuracy, and adherence to industry standards and company requirements

Expert in formatting and designing professional documents across the Microsoft Office Suite, with a primary focus on advanced features in MS Word, including styles, templates, tables, and document automation tools.

U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of professional experience in technical writing in defense or similar advanced tech field

Experience utilizing artificial intelligence to streamline document creation

Experience in creating compelling materials for investors, including pitch decks, technical overviews, and strategic plans tailored to the unique needs of a defense startup,

Experience managing controlled information (ITAR/EAR/CUI).

ITAR Requirements To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.

Security Clearance May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
