Position Summary BB&E is seeking a

Director of Accounting

to lead the company's accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. This role plays a key leadership position within the finance organization and will partner closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support the financial strategy and continued growth of the company. The Director of Accounting will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations while collaborating with the Director of Project Accounting and Accounting Manager to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

Lead and oversee the company's day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and FAR

Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team, supporting the resolution of accounting inquiries, financial analysis, and reconciliation of financial transactions

Partner with the CFO in support of key financial activities including the annual external financial statement review, company valuation, tax returns, ESOP financial requirements, and annual budgeting process

Oversee and coordinate month‑end and year‑end close processes in collaboration with the Accounting Manager and Director of Project Accounting to ensure timely and accurate reporting

Develop and maintain SOPs to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls

Serve as the organization's subject‑matter expert for the financial accounting system and act as the primary on‑site resource for system functionality and optimization

Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies across the Accounting and Contracts Administration Department, including improved processes and enhanced utilization of the ERP system, Microsoft Planner, and electronic filing systems

Prepare and analyze ad‑hoc financial reports for senior leadership, including monthly Key Financial Indicator reports

Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting staff to foster professional growth and maintain a high‑performing accounting team

Implement and enhance accounting processes and procedures that strengthen the company's internal control framework

Perform other duties as assigned

Key Qualifications

Strong leadership and team development capabilities

Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment

Strong decision‑making and critical thinking skills

Effective communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders

Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a highly interdependent team environment

Experience & Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or MBA preferred

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred

10‑15 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership and team management responsibilities

Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, enhancing ERP system functionality, and meeting strict reporting deadlines

Experience with multiple accounting systems required, including system design or implementation; experience with Deltek Ajera preferred

Significant experience working in the federal contracting environment, with a strong understanding of FAR and accounting practices

Prior experience working for firms providing professional services, engineering, and consulting

Physical Requirements And Work Environment Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch and remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time; operate office equipment including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; lift up to 25 lbs.; speak clearly; understand the speech of another person; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; see details of objects more than a few feet away.

Work Environment: Required to be onsite five days per week for a standard 8‑hour shift Monday‑Friday; occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Must be comfortable working indoors in an office setting; ability to travel is less than 10%.
