About the Role
This is a great opportunity for an early‑career journalist who wants a range of experiences at a national digital news outlet. The candidate will learn about our unique and highly respected brand of journalism; the tools and strategies that power a major media brand on the cutting edge of the information age; how to edit commentaries for clarity and style and logical argumentation; effective headline writing that maximizes SEO; and how to produce and illustrate articles in our content management system. Responsibilities
Write and pitch daily and occasionally longer‑term stories for the news team and special sections, including articles such as short reports, Q&A, slideshows, breaking news, explainers, profiles or analytical pieces tied to recent news events. Write and edit newsletter articles. Assist with launches of Best Countries or Best States, if occurring during your tenure. Assist with article production through the content management system (CMS) as needed. Work closely with the data team to strengthen stories and create data visualizations. Create videos and other multimedia products for social media. Actively and enthusiastically participate in trainings and team activities. Assist with research or administrative tasks as needed. Minimum Qualifications
Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
Part‑time or full‑time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university. Part‑time or full‑time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
All candidates must be able to work a hybrid in‑office schedule in Washington, DC or New York offices. Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace. Effective communicator in both written and spoken English. Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Google Docs. 3.0 GPA or above preferred. Preferred Qualifications
