Environmental Health and Safety Director
Position: Environmental Health and Safety Director at York College, a CUNY institution.
Duties
Evaluate health and safety hazards on campus, including chemical, physical and biological agents and recommend appropriate control measures.
Conduct campus‑wide safety and health investigations including teaching and research laboratories in coordination with the laboratory safety office.
Maintain the College’s computerized chemical inventory system.
Ensure and coordinate environmental health and safety training for faculty and staff and students as required.
Develop and implement compliance strategies and programs for applicable regulatory authorities.
Represent the College with various regulatory agencies as it pertains to environmental health and safety.
Coordinate with CUNY, DASNY, Executive Director of Facilities and Planning/Buildings and Grounds and the Chief Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds to develop and implement control measures to maintain a safe work environment during all construction and renovation projects.
Serve as technical resource regarding standards for laboratories and other College facilities during building projects and renovations.
Coordinate oversight of all environmental remediation work on campus.
Collaborate with Laboratory Safety Office and Public Safety Office on various matters relating to environmental health and safety, fire safety and EPA compliance.
Provide oversight and suggestions to administration for regulatory compliance and quality control of food vendor operations.
Provide oversight and coordinate with Chief Superintendent, third‑party vendor, CUNY, CUNY’s program consultant on all facets of campus chemical water treatment program and cooling tower compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and eight years of related experience is required.
Advanced degree in environmental science, risk management, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or related engineering, public or business management discipline is preferred.
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, New York State and City regulations, and familiarity with current applicable standards and procedures is required.
Compensation & Benefits Salary: $102,747 – $136,546, commensurate with education and experience.
